Just a Phase

A film I’ve recently worked on required some tension during a scene that had little happening other than dialogue. So, I did a little research on how Ambience has been used to achieve this. The film had a certain David Lynch vibe amongst others. Lynch and his sound designers have done very interesting things with Ambiences…

Bath Sounds

Once I’ve done my initial dialogue pass on a new film I like to watch it through again and start marking in notes of all the sounds I’ll need to add in. I always try to record these sounds myself and not rely on library fx where possible. One of my first foley recording sessions…

Burning wool

My latest project was a short film called Heaven’s Rage, a production by Theatre On Wax which visualises an excerpt from the memoir by Leslie Tate. The director Mark Crane made use of physical VFX including burning steel wool in bottles and wine glasses. Perfect opportunity to get creative with sound. After initial mind mapping I reached out…

Features and Festival Success in August

Sounds for a great cause

I’ve been working with a non-profit company who produce health & beauty products and all of the profits are put to use empowering young girls through education, especially in areas of need. I couldn’t believe something like this hadn’t been done already! They have a Kickstarter if your interested in contributing. http://kck.st/2omcBmd The explainer video has…

Working on The Farm

I’m working at The Farm West Post Production for a month doing freelance cover for the in-house Edit Assistant who has been given some video editing work on a program that’s in. Edit Assistant work is what I do to pay the bills until sound editing can do it for me. It’s cool being surrounded…

Catching waves in Devon

Weekend trip to Devon camping, perfect excuse to get the field recording kit out and add to my library. I was using my new Audio Technica BP4029 Mid Side Stereo mic for these recordings. It’s got a pretty detailed stereo image for a cheap mic! Some snaps by myself and Hannah L Broughton
